Uganda at a glance

Six things that shape a Uganda order.

Facts from the Uganda Revenue Authority’s single-window and ASYCUDA pages; your clearing agent confirms them for the actual shipment.

A licensed agent clears the goods

URA says you need a clearing agent to declare in ASYCUDA World on your behalf. You appoint the agent on your URA portal account, and can view or deactivate agents later.

One single window

The Uganda Electronic Single Window lets traders lodge standardised information and documents at one point. It is built on ASYCUDA World, and UNBS sends inspection requests and receives results through it.

Quality certificates travel electronically

URA says inspection results and quality certificates from agencies such as UNBS and NDA are shared electronically to speed clearance. Your agent confirms whether UNBS requirements apply to your item list.

Import clearance in days

URA reports average import clearance time falling from 14 days to 4 days for selected institutions after the single window. Read it as a measure of the system, not a promise for your shipment.

Landlocked, so two legs

Uganda has no seaport. Sea freight arrives at a partner-state port and continues by road, so the port quotation and the Kampala delivery are separate lines against a named address.

Name the importer once

The importer’s URA portal account, the appointed agent and the invoice all need to name the same company. Settle them before the order, not at the border.

Uganda questions

Before you send the brief.

Short answers with the next document to read. Tax and clearance specifics are confirmed by your clearing professional.

Who clears the goods?

A licensed clearing agent, who declares in ASYCUDA World on your behalf. You appoint the agent on your URA portal account, so settle the choice before the order is placed.

What is the single window?

The Uganda Electronic Single Window is the platform where traders lodge standardised information and documents at one point, built on ASYCUDA World. UNBS inspection requests and results also run through it.

Which port do the goods use?

Uganda has no seaport, so sea freight arrives at a partner-state port and continues by road. We quote the arrival port and the road leg separately and name both in writing.

Does UNBS apply to furniture?

That depends on the product and its HS code. Inspection requests and results run through the single window; your clearing agent checks whether UNBS requirements apply to your item list before you order.

Can I buy remotely?

Yes. Supplier comparisons, photo and video reviews, samples and written approvals all work from a clear brief. A Foshan visit can be planned around the same room schedule if you travel.

What should I send first?

A floor plan or furniture list, the delivery address in Uganda, your product budget and the date the property can receive goods. Add the clearing agent’s contact if one is already appointed.
