Foshan Furniture: Markets, Districts and How to Buy in China’s Furniture Capital

Foshan is known for three things at once: the world’s largest furniture trading district, the densest sofa and upholstery factory cluster in China, and a building-materials base that supplies tiles, sintered stone, aluminium and lighting to the same buyers. Industry estimates reported by UPI in May 2026 put the city at about 35% of China’s furniture production and roughly 30,000 related companies. The scale is easiest to grasp in Lecong, a town in Shunde district about 25 km south of Foshan’s city centre. Guangdong’s official GDToday portal describes Lecong Furniture City as more than 4 million m² of operating area across 180-plus malls, with over 10,000 domestic and foreign dealers, some 3,000 manufacturers represented, more than 20,000 visitors a day and annual transactions of around RMB 80 billion. Malls line National Highway 325 for over 5 km. Fifteen minutes west, Longjiang town is where much of what Lecong sells is made: over 1,200 factories, mostly sofas, beds and upholstery, with a 1 million m² furniture marketplace and a 300,000 m² materials market of its own.

Foshan is also China’s ceramics capital. Nanzhuang in Chancheng district is lined with tile and sintered-stone showrooms, Dali in Nanhai produces aluminium profiles and metal furniture, and Luocun hosts a large lighting market. A buyer furnishing a whole home or fitting out a hotel can therefore source furniture, flooring, stone tops, lighting and hardware within a 40-minute radius, which no other Chinese city offers.

Start at the Louvre International Furniture Exhibition Center in Lecong, then choose one or two malls that match your budget tier. Lecong’s malls sit along the 325 highway and Lecong Avenue, so moving between them is a 5–10 minute drive. Each mall is organised by floor and category, with brand showrooms of 100–2,000 m² run by the manufacturer or its regional dealer. Most sell from stock as well as to order, and most will quote a trade or project price 20–50% below the ticket on request.

Hospitality buyers should add the dedicated venues. Huatian, Gelaimei, Yudao and Misimu display guestroom sets, lobby seating, restaurant chairs and office systems built to project specifications, and their showrooms lead directly to factories in Longjiang. Fly into Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), stay in Chancheng or Lecong, and spend day one in Lecong malls, day two in Longjiang factories and factory showrooms, and an optional day three in a specialist area such as Nanzhuang for tiles and stone, Luocun for lighting or Dali for metal and outdoor furniture. Book showrooms and factories before you arrive: a factory visit without an appointment often ends at the gate, and a mall visit without a shortlist turns into a long walk.

Language and payment need a plan. English is workable in the Louvre and at export-oriented factories, and rare in smaller mall showrooms and workshops, so bring a bilingual companion or use a local team. Almost every supplier accepts WeChat Pay and Alipay, both of which now link to foreign Visa and Mastercard cards; deposits for orders are better paid by bank transfer to the company account, never to an individual’s account, and never in cash. Business cards still matter, but a WeChat QR code matters more, since every follow-up happens there.

If you can choose your dates, mid-March and mid-August coincide with the Longjiang furniture fairs and, in March, with CIFF Guangzhou, the Dongguan 3F fair and Shenzhen Creative Week; the China furniture fairs guide has the next editions. Avoid the three weeks around Chinese New Year (6 February 2027) and the first week of October, when factories and many showrooms close. After the visit, orders are confirmed supplier by supplier, production is tracked for 4–10 weeks, every item is inspected and packed, and goods from all suppliers are consolidated into one shipment. This phase decides whether the trip pays off, and it is where buyers without a local presence most often lose control.

1. Confirm each order in writing: drawing or photo, dimensions, materials, finish, quantity, unit price, packing method, lead time and payment terms. Pay the deposit (typically 30%) to the company bank account.
2. Track production with dated photos each week; for upholstery, request a photo of the bare frame and of the foam before covering.
3. Inspect before the balance: every item photographed and videoed, defects listed and fixed, then the 70% balance released.
4. Pack to a written export standard: foam and corner protection, moisture barriers, wooden crates for stone and glass, bilingual labels, room-by-room marking.
5. Consolidate: goods from 5–10 suppliers arrive at one Foshan or Sanshui warehouse, are measured and loaded into one container or one LCL booking.
6. Ship and clear: commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, plus any destination requirements; typical ocean transit is 20–45 days depending on the route.

A whole home of 40–60 items from 8–10 suppliers often fits one 40 ft HQ container (about 76 m³ / 2,690 cu ft); smaller orders ship LCL by the cubic metre.
