Do I have to use a clearing agent?
Yes. RRA states that importers are obliged by customs law to engage licensed customs clearing agencies. You pass the documents to the agent, who makes the declaration.
What documents does RRA list?
The original commercial invoice, the packing list, the bill of lading or airway bill, and a COMESA or EAC certificate of origin where one applies. We prepare the first three so they agree with each other and with the goods.
Can furniture be pre-cleared before it arrives?
RRA grants pre-clearance to listed categories, up to 14 calendar days before arrival, and other goods only with the Commissioner’s express authority. We plan a furniture order for clearance on arrival.
What happens if the invoice and the goods differ?
RRA names a declared value that differs from the attached invoice, and a wrong commercial description, among its clearance risks. The importer answers for offences on the declaration, so we keep the documents consistent.
Can I buy remotely?
