Australia to Foshan: nonstop into Guangzhou, and the timber paperwork to settle first
Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide all fly nonstop to Guangzhou, in seven to nine hours and within an easy time-zone shift. What stops Australian orders is rarely the flight. It is biosecurity, and a crate without the right mark on it.

- Drop at your hotel — or straight to a showroom if you land early, with parking and tolls settled
On a 11:20 landing the transfer reaches Lecong about an hour later — enough daylight for one showroom.

A paid service, not a free transfer: one arrival, one vehicle, one drop-off. Parking included; tolls at cost. The credit is valid for six months from your arrival date.
Landing, then the transfer
Foshan has no international airport. The gateway you pick decides how much of your first day survives the landing.
Do not plan on the Hong Kong ferry. The Shunde Port passenger service was suspended on 16 July 2026 with no restart date announced. Older guides still recommend it.
The days on the ground
Five days is the useful minimum for a whole home or a hotel brief. Appointments are booked before you land, and each evening you get a written recap of what you saw and what is still open.
- Day 1
Land and calibrate
Land, transfer, rest — then a short walk through Lecong to calibrate prices
- Day 2
Lecong showrooms
Lecong showrooms against your list: two or three options per line, photographed and priced
- Day 3
Longjiang factories
Longjiang: frames, foam, fabric and finish, seen at the factory rather than in a room set
- Day 4
Custom work and samples
The made-to-measure day: drawings, cabinet samples, and an evening recap in writing

Field noteA taxi across Lecong is roughly the flag-fall. It is cheaper than it feels and much faster than walking between blocks.老杨聊皮料, Xiaohongshu

Where the days are actually spent
Outdoor pieces are judged on material and finish, which is easier at the factory.
Lecong 乐从
Trading malls and room-set showrooms. A hundred sofas in a morning, priced retail-facing. The shortlist starts here.
Longjiang 龙江
Factory town for upholstery. The material markets behind it are where a showroom price stops being a mystery.

Where to stay
Sleep near the malls and the trip gets shorter, not cheaper.

What Australian buyers get caught on
- 01DAFF inspects the packaging, not the furniture. Under ISPM 15 every pallet, crate batten and skid in solid wood needs heat treatment and the IPPC mark; plywood, MDF, particle board, cardboard and metal are exempt.
- 02Most export crates are hybrids — plywood panels on solid pine battens and skids. The plywood is exempt and the battens are not, which is exactly the detail that gets missed. Ask for the crate drawing.
- 03Electricals need SAA/RCM marking and 230 V. A factory will build to whatever its usual market uses unless you specify otherwise, per item, on the purchase order.
- 04Rattan, seagrass, bark-edged timber, soil and seed are what a DAFF inspection actually finds. Outdoor furniture and natural-fibre pieces deserve a photo of the packed unit before it leaves Foshan.
- 05Sailing to Sydney or Melbourne is typically 3–4 weeks. DAFF clearance adds days rather than weeks, but only if the marks on the crates are already correct.
Practical specification checks, not certification advice. Confirm current requirements with your importer or testing body.

Trip cost, before any furniture
| Line | Planning figure |
|---|---|

| Hotel | Lecong or Chancheng, 4-star, about AUD 90–170 per night |
| Guide day | USD 150 guide only · USD 250 with car · USD 299 with a 7-seat SUV |
| Crate inspection | Ask for the packed crate photo before the container is sealed; it costs nothing and prevents a hold |

Questions Australian buyers ask
How long does it take to get from Australia to Foshan?
Seven and a half hours from Perth, about nine from Sydney or Melbourne, nonstop to Guangzhou. Then about an hour by road to Lecong, or the Guangfo intercity rail to Foshan West.
Do Australians need a visa for China?
No, for stays up to 30 days. Australian passports are on China's unilateral visa-free list, currently valid to 31 December 2026 — confirm before booking, because the list has been extended repeatedly and could change again.
What is the ISPM 15 problem Australians keep hitting?
Solid-wood packaging must be heat-treated and carry the IPPC mark. Furniture itself can be untreated. The trap is a hybrid crate where the plywood is fine and the pine battens are not, so the whole crate is non-compliant on arrival. Specify the packaging material in the order.
Can you arrange pickup if I fly into Sydney-style long-haul at an awkward hour?
Yes. The driver tracks the flight and meets you in the arrivals hall. Late-night and early-morning landings are normal, and Guangzhou to Lecong is only about an hour, so a 06:00 landing still gets you into a showroom the same morning.
How many days should I plan for?
Four to five. Three days is enough for sofas and dining; add a day if you are mixing tiles, cabinetry or outdoor furniture into the same container.
Elsewhere in Oceania
Buyers who come to Foshan rarely come alone: a household or a hotel brief often spans two markets.
