Switzerland to Foshan: the connecting route and the specification standard
No nonstop from Zurich, so a Swiss trip starts with a connection and a calculation: this is the most expensive market in Europe to land goods in, which makes specification and packing density worth more than a discount.

Getting here
Schedules change with the season — confirm the operating carrier before booking. The airport code is the part that stays put.

- Drop at your hotel — or straight to a showroom if you land early, with parking and tolls settled
Land at 06:40 after 13–15 h in the air, and you are in Lecong about an hour later.

A paid service, not a free transfer: one arrival, one vehicle, one drop-off. Parking included; tolls at cost. The credit is valid for six months from your arrival date.
Landing, then the transfer
Three doors into the Pearl River Delta. Which one you use is a fare decision; the ground leg is what moves your first showroom.
Do not plan on the Hong Kong ferry. The Shunde Port passenger service was suspended on 16 July 2026 with no restart date announced. Older guides still recommend it.
The days on the ground
Four days is the working minimum for anything beyond a single category. Appointments are booked before you land, and each evening you get a written recap of what you saw and what is still open.
- Day 1
Land and calibrate
Land and settle. An hour in Lecong is enough to reset your expectations before buying
- Day 2
Lecong showrooms
Lecong showrooms against your list: two or three options per line, photographed and priced
- Day 3
Factories behind the malls
Behind the showrooms today: Longjiang for upholstery, Nanzhuang if tiles are on the list
- Day 4
Samples and sign-off
Samples, custom pieces, then sign off and leave with a specification
Field noteIf the trip is only furniture, stay in Longjiang: you can cover several factories a day. Add Lecong if tiles are on the list.可乐家(装修记录), Xiaohongshu
Field noteIn the malls, open about 40% below the ask and expect to close near 70%. Factory shops settle around 90%.老杨聊皮料, Xiaohongshu
Where the days are actually spent
Cabinetry pulls the route towards the workshop districts rather than the malls.
Lecong 乐从
Trading malls and room-set showrooms. A hundred sofas in a morning, priced retail-facing. The shortlist starts here.
Longjiang 龙江
Factory town for upholstery. The material markets behind it are where a showroom price stops being a mystery.
Chancheng 禅城
The city centre. A practical base, flagship showrooms, kitchen and bathroom.

Where to stay
Pick the base first; the room is the easy part.
Sofitel Foshan 佛山罗浮宫索菲特酒店
Inside the Louvre furniture complex. You can walk from the lobby to the malls, which removes the daily commute that eats a sourcing trip.

Where to eat

What Swiss buyers get caught on
- 01Switzerland is outside the EU. Goods clear at Basel or Zurich, and the customs entry is separate from any EU shipment on the same order — do not let a forwarder quote you a 'Europe' price.
- 028.1% VAT is low, but duty on furniture plus the inland leg from a EU port is not. Compare a Basel-cleared quote with a Rotterdam-cleared one before choosing.
- 03Type J plugs and 230 V. Switzerland is one of the few markets where the plug is genuinely its own, so specify Type J per item or you ship an unusable box.
- 04Timber due diligence applies under Swiss law as it does under EUTR. Ask for species and origin documents at quotation, not after the deposit.
- 05High-specification buyers: solid timber, visible joinery, precision hardware. A sample that fails on finish will not be rescued by a better price.
Practical specification checks, not certification advice. Confirm current requirements with your importer or testing body.

Questions Swiss buyers ask
How do I get from Switzerland to Foshan?
No nonstop. Zurich or Geneva to Doha, Dubai or Istanbul, then Guangzhou — 13 to 15 hours with the connection.
Do Swiss passports need a visa for China?
No, up to 30 days. Switzerland is on China's unilateral visa-free list, currently valid to 31 December 2026.
Why does the plug matter more here?
Switzerland uses Type J, which is not the EU Type C/F. Specify it per item on the purchase order; retrofitting plugs is not a compliance fix.
Can I clear customs at Basel instead of a seaport?
Yes, and most Swiss importers do. Ask for the Basel-cleared landed cost, not a Rotterdam price, before comparing suppliers.
How many days do I need?
Four. The journey argues for making them count, and the specification work takes most of it.
Elsewhere in Europe
Buyers who come to Foshan rarely come alone: a household or a hotel brief often spans two markets.
