Shunlian North vs Shunlian South: how Chinese buyers use Lecong’s price gap — and where it breaks for overseas buyers

Shunlian North and Shunlian South are adjacent furniture markets in Lecong, Shunde, Foshan, China. North is a mid-to-upper showroom mall used to compare styles and quality; South is a trade-style complex of single-category shops. South is usually cheaper, but identical-looking pieces may use different frames, foam, leather or hardware.
How we wrote this (updated with comment threads): we read the most-saved Lecong buying guides on Xiaohongshu (China’s largest lifestyle-review platform) through its search API on 23 September 2026, paraphrased what buyers reported, and added what we see when we quote the same pieces for overseas clients. Buyer figures are theirs, not ours.
Shunlian North is the dressed showroom mall; Shunlian South is the trade-style market next door, organised by product type. North sells complete rooms in styled shops, carries higher rents and higher tags, and is where most buyers form their taste. South is split into numbered blocks, each shop focusing on one category.
A July 2026 buyer guide mapped South like this: block 3 for sofas, blocks 5–6 for value solid wood, block 7 for narrow pieces sized for small flats, block 8 for beds and mattresses, block 9 for built-in cabinetry and block 10 for balcony and outdoor sets. Treat that as a starting map — tenants move, so check the directory boards on arrival.
They use North as a catalogue and South as the checkout. The 2020 guide that still circulates on Xiaohongshu describes the routine: a morning in Shunlian North to settle styles without paying a deposit, an afternoon in South, Dongheng or Nanhua looking for the same models. The author says many pieces turned up at roughly half the North price and that the method saved them more than RMB 10,000 on a sofa, three beds, a coffee table and a dining set.
The same buyer corrects a common myth about discounts: when a shop claims “original price 20,000, today 10,000”, the realistic landing point is RMB 7,000–8,000 — not a further 70% off.
In Lecong one popular design is usually made by several factories, at several grades, for several malls. So the North–South gap is partly rent — and partly a different product wearing the same shape. A local buyer can press the seat and open a drawer. A buyer in London or Sydney choosing from photos cannot, which is exactly when the cheaper copy costs more.
Because the parts that decide lifespan are hidden under the upholstery. When we quote one design from three workshops, the differences are almost never in the silhouette. They are in:
- Frame — kiln-dried solid timber and plywood versus particleboard and staples.
- Foam — density in kg/m³ and whether the seat is layered, or one cheap block that flattens in a year.
- Leather — full or top grain versus split or bonded leather sold as “genuine leather”.
- Finish and hardware — number of lacquer coats, drawer runners, hinge brand.

Comments under the two guides are mostly practical questions, and a few of them change the advice.
- Delivery prices move at dispatch. One commenter on the Shunlian South guide says the delivery charge quoted at the shop went up on the day the goods left — with the carrier the shop itself had recommended.
- Parking and hours. Replies confirm Shunlian South closes around 6 pm and parking is free without a purchase; several people ask whether shops open over Chinese New Year (many close for two to four weeks).
- “It isn’t cheap — the range is the point.” Under a four-day buying diary, a buyer who had just returned answers “is it really cheaper?” with: not really for the good-looking pieces; the real advantage is how many more designs there are. Others agree: you get what you pay for.
- There is no standard bargaining percentage. One 2020 buyer reported settling near 70–80% of a displayed price, while a 2025 freight-forwarder post advised 40–60% in high-rent malls. These are dated reports, not a current market rule. Compare two or three written quotes against the same specification instead of negotiating toward a fixed percentage.

Is Shunlian South cheaper than Shunlian North?
Usually, yes. Buyers on Xiaohongshu report finding the same designs in Shunlian South, Dongheng and Nanhua for roughly half the Shunlian North price. The catch is that the internal build (frame, foam, leather grade) can differ, so compare against a written specification rather than a photo.
