En bref

  • The most-saved acceptance post in our research — an 18-step list for custom cabinets with 10,000+ likes — groups checks into appearance, hardware, interior and wall junctions.
  • A Hebei buyer checks 18 mm carcass and door panels and 9 mm backs, warning that 5 mm backs are a common substitution because nobody sees them.
  • A Hunan post says doors taller than 1.5 m need at least three hinges; her own 2.3 m doors have five.
  • Buyers stress checking before the installers leave: faults are easiest to fix while the people who caused them are in the room.
  • For overseas deliveries, the crate count and damage note on the carrier’s receipt are the start of any insurance claim.

When furniture from China is delivered, count and photograph the crates before anything is opened, note visible damage on the delivery receipt, then open the high-risk pieces first — stone and glass tops, legs, upholstered corners — and check colour, finish, hardware and dimensions against your order. Record problems with photos and video the same day and keep the packaging, because claims and re-work depend on evidence gathered at the door.

What should you check when furniture is delivered?

Five things, in this order: count, outside damage, high-risk pieces, match to the order, and function. Chinese homeowners are fierce about this. A buyer in Guangdong whose acceptance list has more than 10,000 likes wrote it while her own custom cabinets were still being re-worked; her advice is to check immediately and mark every problem so the maker cannot dispute it later. Her 18 checks fall into four groups: appearance, hardware, interior structure, and where cabinets meet walls and ceilings.

For furniture shipped from China the same logic applies with one extra layer — the journey. An inspection in Foshan, like the one in our guide d'inspection du mobilier, proves what left the factory; the delivery check proves what arrived. Compare against the photos in your pre-shipment inspection report.

From the same poster's checklist: confirm the cabinets match what was agreed, down to whether doors overlay or sit inside the top and bottom panels.

What is the 30-minute delivery routine?

Split the half-hour into four blocks and do not sign until the first two are done.

Minutes Tâche Preuve
0–5 Count crates and cartons against the packing list; look for crushed corners, tears, water marks Photos of every side of damaged packages, with the truck visible
5–15 Open the high-risk pieces: stone and glass tops, tables, anything with legs, upholstered corners Close-ups and a short video of each defect
15–25 Check colour, finish and material against samples; measure key dimensions; open every drawer and door Photos beside the retained swatch
25–30 Write specific damage on the delivery receipt, keep a copy, and keep all packaging Photo of the signed receipt

Write what you see — “crate 3 corner crushed, table top chipped at one corner” — rather than a vague note. The rest of the unpacking can wait for the installers or the next day, but any claim will lean on these 30 minutes; see shipping damage and insurance.

Notre avis

A Chinese homeowner can refuse a delivery or call the fitter back the same week. An overseas buyer cannot, which changes what the delivery check is for. At home, the delivery check is how you get a fix; from abroad, it is how you prove where the damage happened. The half-hour at the door works best as a second check, after the real inspection has already happened in Foshan.

How do you check custom cabinets and wardrobes on arrival?

Check boards before installation and doors as they are hung. A Hebei buyer (1,890 likes) lists what she checks as panels come in:

  • Packaging intact; colour against the sample or a photo.
  • The board is the one ordered — brand marks under a UV torch where used.
  • Edge banding for lifting, cracking or gaps; raw edges release more formaldehyde.
  • Thickness: 18 mm for carcasses and doors, 9 mm for backs, not 5 mm.
  • Hinges, handles and slides are the brands ordered.
  • The core, seen through drilled holes and grooves, before it is hidden.

A Hunan post (1,687 likes) adds installation checks: doors and drawers close smoothly with soft-close working; carcasses and rails do not wobble; no light shows through joints; vents are present in shoe and kitchen cabinets; door gaps are even when seen from a distance; and hinge count is right — at least three on doors over 1.5 m. More on hardware in hinges, slides and gas struts.

Qu'apportent les commentaires ?

The comment threads under the acceptance posts are full of photos from buyers asking “is this normal?” — and the answers are useful.

  • You don’t need the delivery crew to wait. The Hebei buyer says to let the drivers unload and leave, then check at your own pace and raise issues with the cabinet maker.
  • Test the watermark. A commenter suggests wiping hidden brand marks with make-up remover to see whether they come off.
  • Some faults are unmistakable. Readers posted edge banding that one reply said would fail under any standard, and cabinets fixed entirely with expanding foam.
  • Drawer bottoms should be finished. Asked whether bare-board drawer bottoms are normal, a reply said they should normally have a finished face.

What should you check on sofas and upholstered pieces?

Colour and material against the retained swatch, seams and corners, cushions, and the frame. Look at leather or fabric in daylight next to the swatch, check that cushions from different rolls match, press arms and backs for loose frames, and sit in every seat. For leather, confirm it is the grade you ordered on every surface specified — see leather grades explained — and for foam and frame, comment juger un canapé de Foshan.

What if something arrives damaged?

Record it the same day, tell your supplier or agent and the insurer, and do not throw anything away. Photos, video, the annotated receipt and the packaging are the evidence. Small finish damage is often repaired locally; broken stone or glass usually needs a replacement made and shipped, which is why a good pre-shipment inspection and crate are cheaper than any claim. Comment Source Foshan gère cela

We aim to make the delivery check a formality. Every item is inspected in Foshan against the signed-off spec before loading, and you approve the photo and video report before the balance is paid. Goods from several suppliers are received into our consolidation warehouse, re-packed to export standard and labelled by room, and loading is photographed. We coordinate LCL or FCL shipping, export documents, customs and door-to-door delivery, and we send the packing list and photos your team needs to check the delivery against.

FAQ

What should I check when furniture is delivered?

Count packages, photograph outside damage, open fragile pieces first, then check colour, finish, dimensions and moving parts against your order. Note specific damage on the delivery receipt.

Should I sign for damaged furniture?

Sign only with specific damage noted on the receipt, and keep a copy. Your insurer and supplier will need that note, the photos and the packaging.

How soon should I report damaged furniture?

The same day if you can. Insurance and carrier claims often have short notice periods; check yours before delivery day.

Do I need to check furniture that was inspected in China?

Yes. The inspection proves what left the factory; the delivery check proves what arrived.
