- The starting point is the 10-digit HTSUS line: the first six digits are the international HS code, the rest are US-specific.
- Section 301 duties on Chinese goods have covered many furniture, lighting and hardware lines منذ عام 2018; they are entered under Chapter 99 provisions and have changed repeatedly.
- Since 2025 further tariff actions have been layered on Chinese goods, including measures aimed at certain wood products such as upholstered wooden furniture, kitchen cabinets and vanities; several have been amended, postponed or challenged in court.
- Anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders apply to specific products from China — wooden cabinets and vanities since 2020, mattresses since 2019 — and are defined by product description, not HS line.
- Every figure in this area is valid only at the time of writing — confirm with your broker, and re-check before shipping, because the rate is normally set at entry, not at order.
US duty on furniture from China is built in layers: the ordinary rate for the 10-digit HTS line, Section 301 duties that have applied to many Chinese furniture lines since 2018, tariff actions introduced since 2025, and — for products such as wooden cabinets, vanities and mattresses — anti-dumping and countervailing duties. Rates have changed repeatedly, so check each layer for your exact HTS line with a licensed customs broker shortly before you order and again before the goods ship.
What tariffs apply to furniture imported from China?
Up to five layers can apply to one shipment, and each has to be checked separately for your HTS line (at the time of writing — confirm with your broker).
| طبقة | ما هي | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1. HTS general rate | The ordinary duty for the 10-digit line; many furniture lines are low or free | The US HTS, column 1 |
| 2. Section 301 | Additional duty on many Chinese-origin goods since 2018 | Chapter 99 provisions listed against your line; any exclusion still in force |
| 3. Newer tariff actions | Measures announced since 2025, including actions on certain wood products and broad duties on Chinese goods | Current CBP guidance; whether they stack with Section 301 |
| 4. AD/CVD orders | Anti-dumping and countervailing duties on specific products, e.g. wooden cabinets and vanities, mattresses | The order’s scope text and the exporter’s company-specific rate |
| 5. Fees | Merchandise Processing Fee; Harbor Maintenance Fee on ocean freight | Your broker’s entry summary |
The code drives every layer, which is why classification comes first. Start with our دليلنا لرموز التعريفة الجمركية للأثاث ضمن الفصل 94 و مرجعنا لأكواد التصنيف الجمركي للأثاث.
How does Section 301 affect furniture from China?
Section 301 adds a duty on top of the ordinary rate for many Chinese furniture lines, and the amount and exclusions have moved several times since 2018 (at the time of writing — confirm with your broker). It is not written into the main HTS line: it sits in Chapter 99, which lists which HTS numbers are covered and at what additional rate.
- Find your 10-digit HTS line, e.g. the national line under 9401.61 for an upholstered sofa (see sofa HS codes).
- Ask your broker which Chapter 99 provision applies to that line today.
- Check whether any product exclusion still applies — many earlier exclusions have lapsed.
- Check whether newer measures stack on top or replace it for your line.
Quotes that mention a single “furniture tariff” percentage for China are almost always leaving out a layer.

Tariffs on Chinese furniture have moved too often since 2018 for any published rate — ours included — to be trusted for more than a few weeks. The stable part is the method: correct code, every layer listed separately, and a re-check at shipment. A buyer who knows the 10-digit HTS line for each product can get a reliable duty figure in a day; a buyer who does not is guessing.
What changed for furniture tariffs in 2025 and 2026?
The US added further tariff actions on Chinese goods and on certain wood products, then amended several of them; buyers should treat any 2026 figure as provisional (at the time of writing — confirm with your broker). Among them were national-security tariffs on timber and wood products that named upholstered wooden furniture and kitchen cabinets and vanities, with scheduled increases announced and later adjusted, and broad duties on Chinese goods whose legal basis has been challenged in court.
What matters for a buyer is the mechanism, not a headline. Ask your broker four questions per line: which measures apply today, whether they stack, whether goods already in transit are treated differently, and what the rate would be if the goods entered next month. The low-value “de minimis” route for Chinese goods was also closed in 2025, so small shipments of samples and parts now enter formally.

Do anti-dumping duties apply to Chinese furniture?
Yes, for specific products: wooden cabinets and vanities (since 2020), mattresses (since 2019) and a long-standing order on wooden bedroom furniture are the ones furniture buyers meet most (at the time of writing — confirm with your broker). These orders are defined by product description, so a cabinet entered as parts or under an unexpected HTS line can still be in scope. Rates are high and specific to each exporter.
Our explainer on anti-dumping duties on Chinese cabinets and vanities sets out who they hit and how to plan. Moving final assembly to another country does not automatically change origin, and US Customs investigates transshipment.

How is duty calculated on a furniture shipment to the US?
On the transaction value of the goods, generally excluding international freight and insurance, multiplied by each applicable rate for each HTS line. That is why the invoice matters as much as the code.
- One line per product type. A container with sofas, tables and lighting has at least three duty calculations.
- Realistic values. Undervaluation invites penalties and delays; declare the price actually paid.
- Other paperwork. Ocean shipments need an Importer Security Filing before loading, wooden furniture lines a Lacey Act declaration, and wood packaging must meet ISPM 15 — see ISPM 15 and fumigation for solid wood.
Put duty into the landed cost alongside freight: our شحن وتجميع الأثاث page and the الشامل لشحن الأثاث من الصين show the rest of the sum.

What should you check before placing a furniture order for the US?
Check the code, the layers and the timing — and put the answer in writing before paying the deposit.
- Write material and construction for every line, then have your broker confirm the 10-digit HTS number.
- Get the total duty per line, listing each layer separately.
- Ask whether any AD/CVD order could cover any line, including parts.
- Decide who is importer of record. “Duties-paid” door-to-door offers move that role to a forwarder you may not control.
- Re-check rates when the goods are ready to ship.

كيف تتعامل Source Foshan مع ذلك
We do not give legal or tax advice, and we do not quote duty rates as our own. What we do is give your customs broker what they need: one written specification per item with materials and construction, photo and video evidence from production and the pre-loading inspection, and an invoice and packing list prepared line by line from our Foshan consolidation warehouse. Our fee — 3–5% of order value — is a separate line agreed before any factory is contacted, so it is easy to show a broker the factory price on its own.

What is the tariff on furniture from China?
There is no single rate. Duty depends on the 10-digit HTS line and on Section 301, newer tariff actions and any anti-dumping order that applies. Ask a licensed customs broker for the current total per line — valid at the time of writing only.
Does Section 301 apply to furniture?
Many Chinese furniture, lighting and hardware lines have been covered by Section 301 since 2018. Coverage and rates are set in Chapter 99 of the HTS and have changed several times, so confirm with your broker.
Are there anti-dumping duties on Chinese furniture?
Yes, for specific products, including wooden cabinets and vanities, mattresses and wooden bedroom furniture. Orders are defined by product description, and rates are company-specific.
Is duty charged on freight costs for US imports?
Generally no. US duty is normally assessed on the transaction value excluding international freight and insurance, unlike the EU and UK, which use a value including freight to the border.
Will tariffs change after I place my order?
They can. The rate normally applies at entry, not at order, so a change while goods are in production or at sea can affect your cost. Re-check with your broker before the goods ship.
