Preparing for a new home

The household's move to Sydney prompted several months of furniture research, with an interest in solid-wood designs from China. The client gathered product references while comparing the cost and scope of shipping options.

The planning allowance for furniture and freight rose from CNY 60,000 to CNY 65,000. Those amounts describe the budget during preparation, rather than a final invoice or a current package price.

A shared-container shipment

The furniture was consolidated and packed for a shared-container shipment arranged in May. This brought the order into one international shipping plan.

An important part of the preparation was comparing what the freight proposals covered. A quotation ending at the destination port and one including customs handling and home delivery represented different services, even when both were described as shipping quotes.

Furniture in, with installation and cleanup

The destination arrangement included home delivery, installation and cleanup. The client reported receiving the furniture without damage and planned to continue styling the rooms after the delivery.

The project shows why an overall budget needs to account for more than furniture and ocean freight. Destination charges, taxes and local delivery need to be considered alongside the agreed service scope.
