In short

  • Foshan’s furniture trade divides by town: Lecong sells, Longjiang makes, and smaller Shunde towns supply the hardware, machinery and coatings behind the factories.
  • A Foshan wardrobe maker’s factory-floor post, with 793 comments, prices a 2.4 m French-style wardrobe at RMB 1,899 ex-factory; in the replies the seller confirms installation is extra.
  • One 6,000 m² showroom in Nanhai, promoted by a visitor as “source factory direct”, is described by another visitor as a store for several furniture brands — a reminder that the label proves little.
  • The factory showrooms buyers rate most highly usually want an appointment, often a day ahead; opening hours of 9:00–18:00 are typical in the posts we read.
  • Source Foshan works from a list of 300+ vetted suppliers across Foshan and Dongguan and compares 2–3 quotes per item against one specification.

Foshan’s furniture manufacturers are grouped by town: Longjiang in Shunde district builds much of the upholstery and panel furniture, neighbouring Lecong sells it through malls and showrooms, and towns in Nanhai add more factory showrooms and custom-cabinet plants. Almost all of them will sell to an overseas buyer, but the word “factory” is used for everything from a production plant to a rented showroom — so the right factory is one that shows you its workshop, signs in its own company name and quotes against your written specification.

Where are Foshan’s furniture manufacturers, and what does each area make?

Most sit in Shunde district, where Longjiang does the making and Lecong does the selling; more factories are spread across Nanhai, and a separate, more export-minded cluster sits in Dongguan, a couple of hours’ drive east. Overseas buyers often picture one industrial zone. In practice it is a patchwork of towns, each with a speciality, and knowing which town builds your category is the fastest way to cut a long list of “furniture manufacturers in Foshan, China” down to a short one.

A promotional post from a Longjiang materials market claims that everything a furniture factory needs — leather, foam, hardware, board, packaging — can be bought within about 50 km. Treat the exact radius as marketing, but the point stands: a Foshan factory can switch a fabric or a hinge in days, which is why the district is good at variations and short runs. Our Foshan furniture districts page maps the towns, and the Longjiang guide covers the town most buyers end up ordering in.

What does “factory” mean when a Foshan furniture seller uses it?

It can mean a production plant, a manufacturer’s own showroom, a multi-brand store or a trading company — and on Xiaohongshu all four describe themselves as a “source factory”. None of these is wrong to buy from. What changes is who makes the piece, who signs the contract and who you chase when something arrives damaged.

The research for this guide shows the problem neatly. A 6,000 m² showroom in an industrial park in Jiujiang, Nanhai, appears in one visitor’s post as “source factory direct, no middlemen”, with a promise that a whole home costs less than a single piece at a mall. A second visitor describes the same space as a collection store gathering several furniture brands under one roof. Both can be true — a manufacturing group may own several brands — but you cannot tell from the posts, and neither could the readers asking for catalogues in the comments.

Type of seller What you see What to ask
Factory with workshop Showroom above or beside production; stock in the loading area Can we walk the workshop and see this model being built?
Factory showroom off-site A dressed showroom in a park or mall; factory elsewhere Where is the factory, and is it the same legal company?
Multi-brand store Several labels, one sales team Which company makes this item and signs for it?
Trading company Catalogue from many makers; fast replies What do you add — spec control, QC, consolidation — and at what cost?

We unpack the label in what “source factory” really means, and the practical checks — business registration, bank account name, workshop evidence — are in how to verify a Chinese furniture factory.

Our view

Foshan’s real advantage for a foreign buyer is not that factories are cheap; it is that competing factories sit twenty minutes apart. That only helps if the comparison is fair — same drawing, same materials, same packing — and if the company you pick is the one that signs, gets paid and gets inspected. The cheapest quote from a seller you cannot identify is the most expensive line on your order.

How do you find and shortlist the right Foshan furniture factory?

Start from the product, not the factory: define the item, find the town that specialises in it, then ask three makers to quote against the same written specification. Searching for “Foshan furniture factory” online returns hundreds of accounts with near-identical photos; the specification is what separates them.

  1. Write the specification first. Dimensions, frame and board materials, cover fabric or leather grade, finish, quantity, destination country. One page per item is enough.
  2. Match the category to the cluster. Upholstery points to Longjiang; wardrobes and kitchens to custom-cabinet plants in Nanhai and Shunde; full-container export casegoods often to Dongguan.
  3. Ask for a catalogue and a quote. A serious maker replies with item codes, sizes, materials and carton data. Our guide to getting a catalogue and quote from a Chinese factory lists what to send and what a usable quote contains.
  4. Check the company behind the account. Registration, the name on the bank account and evidence of production — see the verification steps.
  5. Compare line by line. Put the three quotes side by side against your spec; a quote that omits the foam density or the board grade is not cheaper, it is vaguer.

Our overview of Chinese furniture manufacturers covers the clusters outside Guangdong if your category is better made elsewhere.

What does the comment section add?

The 793 comments under the wardrobe post read like a list of what buyers ask a factory first — and what the factory’s answers leave open.

  • Installation is extra. Asked whether fitting is included, the seller replies that it is an ex-factory price and installation is charged separately.
  • Board thickness is a claim. A reader asks whether the sides are thick and the middle thin; the seller says 18 mm throughout. It is exactly the kind of statement to write into the order and measure at inspection.
  • Delivery stops at “local”. Freight is included to the buyer’s area; a buyer in a Guangxi village is asked how far she lives from the county town, and a Foshan buyer is asked whether her building has a lift.
  • Standard modules first. A request for a 3 m unit is answered with two existing modules rather than a custom build.
  • Price anchoring. One commenter jokes that she paid RMB 5,000 for a similar wardrobe elsewhere — a reminder that price comparisons mean little without matching specifications.

What minimum orders and custom terms do Foshan factories expect?

Factory showrooms that sell to homeowners will usually sell a single piece; export-oriented factories set minimums per item, per size or per colour, and custom work is priced around their existing moulds and modules. The two worlds overlap in Foshan, which is why a private buyer and a retailer can end up in the same showroom being quoted on different terms.

The wardrobe maker in our research is a good example of how flexible a Foshan factory can be — within limits. When a buyer asked for a 3 m wardrobe, the seller did not offer a new design; the reply was a 0.8 m plus 2.2 m combination from existing units. Asked about a five-door, 200 × 270 cm version, the answer was simply “yes”. That is typical: sizes and finishes flex easily, while new shapes cost tooling and samples.

If you are ordering for a shop, a hotel or a brand, read furniture MOQs in China for how minimums are set and negotiated, and OEM and ODM furniture in China for private label, your own designs and what protects them.

Is it worth visiting a Foshan furniture factory in person?

Yes for large or custom orders — twenty minutes in the workshop tells you more than a catalogue — but for small orders a live video walk-through plus inspection before shipping is usually enough. The visit is not about the showroom, which every seller dresses well. It is about the loading area, the frames on the workshop floor and whether the people you meet can answer technical questions without calling someone.

Plan for appointments. Visitors to the Nanhai showroom above were asked to book a day in advance, and the most popular factory showrooms in Longjiang work the same way. Distances between factories are short, but many are inside industrial parks with poor signage, so a car and a driver who knows the parks save hours.

Our 20-minute factory visit checklist lists what to look at and what to ask; inside a Foshan furniture factory shows what a working plant looks like; and guided visits are described on our visit Foshan page.

What does a Foshan factory price include — and what does it leave out?

A factory price normally covers the piece at the factory gate; installation, delivery beyond the local area, export packing, inspection and freight are separate. The wardrobe post makes this explicit. The RMB 1,899 price is for a 2.4 m × 0.6 m × 2.4 m unit; the seller says delivery is included only to the buyer’s local area within China, installation costs extra, and questions about stairs and lifts come before any delivery quote.

For an overseas order the missing lines are bigger:

  • Export packing — cartons, corner protection and sometimes wooden crates, which change the volume you pay freight on.
  • Inspection — checking the finished piece against the specification before you release the balance. Our furniture inspection guide covers what to check and when.
  • Consolidation and freight — combining several factories into one container.

Our factory-direct furniture SOP walks through each step from quote to container, so you can see where a “cheap” factory price ends and the real landed cost begins.

How Source Foshan handles it

We treat “factory” as a claim to check rather than a label to trust. For each item we shortlist makers from our list of 300+ vetted suppliers in Lecong, Longjiang, Shunde and Dongguan, write one specification and collect two or three quotes against it, so you compare like with like. Deposits — as low as 10% on many orders — are paid to the supplier’s company account; production is tracked with weekly photos and video; and every piece is inspected against the confirmed spec before loading, with the balance released only after you approve the report. Goods from several factories are consolidated in our Foshan warehouse and shipped together. Our 3–5% fee is agreed in writing before any factory is contacted and shown separately from the factory price; we take no commissions or rebates from suppliers.

Prefer to choose from a ready catalogue?

If you need finished rooms rather than a factory relationship, we recommend Arcaya Living: a catalogue of more than 10,000 pieces already sourced to confirmed specifications, plus a whole-home service covering design direction, custom cabinetry, production follow-up, delivery and installation. Interior designers have a dedicated route in.

FAQ

Where are most furniture factories in Foshan?

Mainly in Shunde district, especially Longjiang, with many more in Nanhai towns such as Jiujiang and Shishan. Lecong, also in Shunde, is where most of the malls and showrooms are. Dongguan, a couple of hours east, is a separate cluster.

Can I buy directly from a furniture factory in Foshan?

Yes. Many Foshan factories sell single pieces to walk-in buyers and ship abroad if you arrange freight. The risk is not access but verification: make sure the company you pay is the company that makes and signs for the goods.

How can I tell whether a Foshan furniture manufacturer is a real factory?

Ask to see the workshop and the loading area, check that the business registration matches the name on the contract and the bank account, and ask technical questions about frames, foam or board. A seller who cannot show production or answer in detail is probably a showroom or trader.

Do Foshan furniture factories have minimum order quantities?

Showrooms selling to homeowners usually sell one piece at a time. Export-focused factories set minimums per item, size or colour, which are negotiable for mixed orders and more flexible when you use their existing designs.

Is Foshan or Dongguan better for furniture manufacturing?

Foshan is better for range, variations and mixing many suppliers in one order; Dongguan suits buyers placing larger, repeat export orders with a single factory. Many projects use both and consolidate in one container.
