- A buyer who spent three days in Foshan describes its malls as one long street in Lecong, with most factories in Longjiang; many showrooms also sell lamps, rugs and decor.
- A second buyer visited 11 furniture and home stores in two days; apart from one, they were all within about 5 km of each other, the poster said.
- The same buyer reported sofas at one design-led showroom costing more than RMB 10,000 — design-led showrooms are not the cheap end of Foshan.
- A Foshan homeowner credits a vintage wool rug with lifting a walnut living room — the finishing layer Chinese buyers often add last.
- Lighting is the soft furnishing with legal requirements: most markets expect their own electrical certification, voltage and plug type.
Rugs, lighting and curtains are the easiest things to add to a Foshan furniture order: they are light, they pack into the gaps around furniture and they finish the rooms the furniture was chosen for. Each has one export trap. Rugs need the right construction and size; lighting must be certified and wired for your country’s voltage and plugs; curtains must be measured from installed tracks. Specify those three things and they can travel in the same container as the sofa.
Why add rugs, lighting and curtains to a Foshan furniture order?
Because they cost little to ship when they fill space around furniture already paying for freight, and because they are what makes the furniture look finished. Foshan’s furniture showrooms increasingly sell whole rooms — furniture, lamps, rugs, ceramics and plants — and the market is compact. One buyer’s three-day guide describes the big malls lined up along one long street in Леконг, with most factories in Longjiang; another covered 11 stores in two days, all but one within roughly 5 km of each other.
Chinese homeowners often add these pieces last. One Foshan homeowner’s post about a walnut living room credits a vintage wool rug with bringing the whole space together. For an overseas buyer the order is reversed: decide the rugs, lamps and curtains with the furniture, so that they can be checked together and loaded together. The sofa usually comes first — see our руководство по покупке дивана в Китае — followed by the dining table и bedroom furniture.

How do you buy rugs from China?
Choose the construction first, then the fibre, then the size — and get a physical corner sample before ordering a custom rug. Construction decides price and lifespan more than pattern does.
| Строительство | Типичное применение | Что указать |
|---|---|---|
| Hand-knotted | Heirloom rugs, living rooms | Knot density, fibre, dye type, lead time |
| Hand-tufted | Custom designs and sizes, most “art rugs” | Pile height, backing and latex, fibre blend |
| Machine-woven | Budget, high-traffic, rentals | Fibre, pile, edge finish |
| Flat-weave | Dining rooms, layered looks | Weight, reversibility, slip underlay |
Wool is hard-wearing and naturally resistant to soiling; viscose and similar “silk-look” fibres are soft and shiny but mark easily and dislike water; polypropylene is cheap and cleanable. For size, work from the furniture plan: the rug usually runs slightly longer than the sofa so that its front legs sit on it, as in the proportions shown in our living-room guide. For hotels and public spaces, confirm flammability requirements — see fire-safety standards for export.

Soft furnishings are where overseas buyers are most tempted to “sort it out later”, and later is expensive: a rug bought locally costs retail, and a lamp bought in Foshan without the right certification may never be switched on. Decide the rugs, lamps and curtains with the sofa, not after it — they are cheap to add to a container and costly to fix once the container has gone.
Can you import lighting from China safely?
Yes, if every fitting is built and certified for your market’s electrical rules; otherwise lighting is the one soft furnishing that can be refused, unsafe or uninsurable. Chinese lamps are wired for China’s 220 V supply and plugs by default. The US and Canada use about 120 V; the UK, Europe and Australia use about 230 V but different plugs and certification marks. Common references include UL or ETL listing in North America, CE and UKCA marking in Europe and the UK, and RCM in Australia — confirm what your market and your insurer require.
- Specify voltage, plug type, lamp holder (E26 or E27, GU10) and whether the driver is included.
- Ask for test reports for the exact fitting, not a similar model.
- For pendant lights, specify the drop length and ceiling-canopy size for your ceilings.
- Consider buying bulbs locally; they are cheap, and local bulbs match local holders and dimmers.
Glass and large pendants need crates or double cartons. Classification differs from furniture; see our lighting and hardware HS code guide и уточните пошлину у вашего брокера.

The Xiaohongshu posts we found say little about curtains; the comments are about planning a Foshan trip and what things cost.
- Close together. Asked whether the 11 stores were in one place, the buyer said all but one were about 5 km apart, with the last between Shunde and Guangzhou.
- Price level. Asked about sofa prices at the poster’s favourite design-led store, the reply was that they were generally over RMB 10,000.
- Clearance stock is cheap; custom is not. Under another guide, a reader said a factory’s clearance items were very cheap — a 2.8 m full-leather sofa for just over RMB 4,000 — but re-making the same piece in a new size cost much more.
How do made-to-measure curtains from China work?
Measure from the installed track or pole, specify heading, fullness, lining and hem, and order a fabric sample first. Curtains are the soft furnishing most often ruined by a measuring mistake, because the drop depends on the track height and the floor finish, both of which may change during a renovation.
- Track first. Install or at least fix the position of tracks or poles, then measure width and drop from them.
- Heading and fullness. Pinch pleat, wave or eyelet; state the fullness ratio so the maker cuts enough fabric.
- Lining. Standard, blackout or thermal; decide per room.
- Hem and shrinkage. Linen and cotton can shrink when cleaned; ask how the fabric is pre-treated and allow for it.
- Motorised tracks. Treat them as electrical products: voltage, plug and certification as for lighting.
Label every curtain by room and window, matching the plan. For commercial interiors, ask for fire-retardant fabrics tested to the destination’s rules.

How do rugs, lamps and curtains travel in the same container as the furniture?
Packed separately, labelled by room and loaded around the furniture, after being inspected with it in the consolidation warehouse. Rugs travel rolled and wrapped; curtains folded in bags inside cartons; lamps in fitted inner boxes with shades packed separately. None of them should be loaded under heavy casegoods.
The advantage of buying in Foshan is that these items can be seen alongside the furniture they go with before anything is sealed — colours of rugs against sofa fabrics, lamp finishes against table metals. Our гиде по консолидационным складам explains how items from different suppliers are combined, and экспортной упаковке мебели covers cartons and labels. Как с этим работает Source Foshan
We add rugs, lighting and curtains to the same specification list as the furniture: construction and fibre for rugs, voltage, plug and certification requirements for every light fitting, and measured drops and headings for curtains. Items from each supplier are received into our Foshan consolidation warehouse, checked against the confirmed specification, re-packed to export standard and labelled by room, then loaded with the furniture in one LCL or FCL shipment with export documents coordinated. You approve the photo and video inspection report before any balance is released.
If you would like to finish rooms from a curated range, we recommend Arcaya Living: its rugs, lighting and curtain collections are sourced to confirmed specifications and can be delivered with furniture, through to installation with the packaging removed.

Часто задаваемые вопросы
Can I buy rugs from China for my home?
Yes. Foshan showrooms and rug makers offer hand-tufted, hand-knotted and machine-made rugs, including custom sizes. Choose the construction and fibre first and ask for a corner sample.
Is lighting from China safe to use abroad?
Only if it is built for your voltage and plugs and certified for your market, for example with UL or ETL listing in North America or CE, UKCA or RCM marking elsewhere. Ask for test reports for the exact fitting.
Can I order made-to-measure curtains from China?
Yes, if you measure from installed tracks or poles and specify heading, fullness, lining and hem. Order a fabric sample first and allow for shrinkage in natural fibres.
Is it worth shipping rugs and lamps from China?
Usually, when they travel with furniture in the same shipment, because they fill space that is already paid for. Shipped on their own, the savings are smaller.
