- Breakage reports from buyers who ship from China centre on marble, stone and glass; one New York buyer’s insurer paid for a broken marble coffee table, but no replacement came.
- A US buyer names after-sales as the main advantage of buying at home: if something arrives damaged, the brand simply sends another.
- In China, a big-brand kitchen owner had three failed door panels replaced free after four years; the style had been discontinued, and switching every visible panel to one current style meant a RMB 890 top-up.
- A popular Chinese custom-furniture contract template promises a 3-year warranty with replacement within 3 days — terms that assume the supplier can reach your home.
- A Kuala Lumpur repairer’s post shows water-damaged cabinet bases replaced rather than whole kitchens remade.
After-sales for furniture bought in China works differently from buying locally: a supplier can send parts, replacement panels or a partial refund, but rarely a technician, and shipping a piece back is seldom worth it. Plan it before shipping — spare hardware and fabric in the container, a written window for reporting defects with photos, transit insurance for breakage, and a local repairer for everything else.
What after-sales can you expect from a Chinese furniture supplier?
Parts, replacement components, a remake on a later shipment, or compensation — rarely a repair visit. Domestic after-sales in China can be very good because the supplier can reach you. A kitchen owner’s post shows it: three door panels failed after four years, staff visited quickly, and the panels were replaced free. None of that travels. Under a post about a Dutch TV series on living with Chinese webshop goods, a much-liked comment argues that export versions are not better quality, mainly because after-sales barely exists.
A US buyer puts the contrast plainly: buy at home and a damaged item is re-sent by the brand; buy from China and you manage the fix yourself. How after-sales fits into the whole order is in материале о том, как покупать мебель в Китае шаг за шагом.

What should a furniture warranty from China cover?
Periods by component, the remedy for each, and how a claim is made from abroad. Chinese domestic contracts give a useful starting point. A widely saved template promises three years on hardware, carcasses and doors, with defects replaced within three days or refunded; a Shanghai homeowner suggests 5–10 years for cabinets and 1–2 years for hardware. For an overseas order, translate those into terms that work at a distance:
- Claim window: defects reported with photos or video within an agreed period after delivery.
- Remedy: parts sent by courier, a replacement on your next shipment, or a credit or refund.
- Who pays: courier costs for parts, and local repair costs where agreed.
Your real leverage is before the balance, not after: see deposit, balance and inspection terms.

After-sales from China is mostly bought before the container is closed. A warranty that needs the sofa sent back to Foshan is worth little to a buyer in Melbourne or Toronto; spare covers, a bag of labelled fittings, a touch-up kit and an agreed photo-claim procedure are worth a great deal. The cheapest repair of all is the defect caught at inspection, while the balance is still unpaid.
Which spare parts should you ship with the order?
Anything small, specific to the piece and hard to match later. A chest of drawers in one buyer’s post kept dropping its drawers; the fix turned out to be tightening one cam lock — easy when you have the part and the drawing. A New Zealand buyer who shipped Taobao furniture says to ask every seller for assembly drawings, because the screws arrive in one big bag.
- Spare fittings: bolts, cam locks, connectors, shelf pins, glides.
- Hinges and drawer runners of the same model.
- Spare fabric or leather from the same batch, for repairs or re-covering.
- Touch-up materials for lacquer and wood finishes.
- Assembly drawings and a labelled parts list.
Buying from online sellers makes this list more important, because no single supplier holds all your parts — see «покупка мебели из Китая онлайн».

Что добавляют комментарии?
The kitchen owner’s comment thread is a small case study in how after-sales really works.
- No receipt needed. Asked how to prove the purchase date, the owner says the brand found it from her member phone number — a record overseas buyers of factory goods have to keep themselves.
- Matching is the hard part. Because her old style was discontinued, the top-up covered every visible panel, including edge strips and plinths, not just the three that failed.
- Parts on back-order. She reports that some panels were out of stock and would be fitted after the October holiday — even domestic after-sales waits for parts.
- Climate matters. Another commenter says the same brand’s shelving warped in humid Shanghai but has held up for years in dry Kunming.
What should you do if furniture from China arrives damaged?
Record everything before unpacking, then separate transit damage from manufacturing faults.
- Photograph crates and cartons on arrival; note visible damage on the delivery receipt.
- Unpack with a camera running for high-value pieces.
- Send photos and video within the claim window.
- Claim transit damage from the insurer and manufacturing faults from the supplier.
The New Zealand buyer recommends transit insurance and says the excess was typically around USD 200. The New York buyer’s marble coffee table was paid for by insurance, but, as she says, nobody sends a new one. Loading photos taken in China are what make the transit-versus-factory question answerable.
Can furniture from China be repaired locally?
Usually, yes — upholsterers, cabinet repairers and furniture restorers work on any make. A Kuala Lumpur repair business’s post shows a kitchen whose base panels had rotted from damp being repaired by replacing the base and fixing swollen door edges, which it says costs much less than a new kitchen. Climate matters too, as one of the comments above shows. Specify moisture-resistant boards for kitchens and bathrooms, and check finishes against the чек-лист проверки before anything ships.

Как с этим работает Source Foshan
We try to make after-sales unnecessary by catching problems in Foshan: weekly production photos and video, on-site checks for custom pieces, and an inspection of every item against the confirmed specification before loading, with a photo and video report you approve before the balance is released. Goods are re-packed to export standard in our consolidation warehouse and labelled by room, and loading is photographed, so any transit claim starts from a record of how everything left. Spare fittings, fabric or touch-up materials can be written into the specification like any other item.
If you want delivery and installation handled as one service, we recommend Arcaya Living: its delivery path runs from list confirmation and protective packing through freight, export and customs coordination to truck delivery and installation, with the packaging removed.

Часто задаваемые вопросы
Do Chinese furniture suppliers offer warranties?
Many do, typically by component, but they are written for customers the supplier can reach. For an overseas order, agree how claims are made from abroad and what the remedy is: parts, replacement or credit.
Who pays if furniture from China arrives broken?
Transit damage is usually an insurance matter, subject to the policy and its excess; manufacturing faults are the supplier’s. Loading photos and a record made on arrival help decide which is which.
Can I return furniture to a supplier in China?
Technically sometimes, but return freight and customs usually cost more than the piece. Repair, parts or a credit are the realistic outcomes.
How do I get spare parts for furniture bought in China?
Order them with the furniture and ship them in the same container. Later, ask the supplier to courier parts, quoting the model code and photos; the order specification makes that easier.
